As you’ll have noticed, I like to create a different sound world for each album, and this time, you can expect some lush dream-like textures, layered harmonies, and melodic earworms! Silver Horizon features some of the best musicians I’ve had the pleasure of working with, including Stuart McCallum on electric guitar, Ben Nicholls on bass, Evan Jenkins on drums, Rowan Rheingans on backing vocals and Ian Stephenson (who produced Home Waters) on harmonium.
The theme this time is turning points, and the title track - which you can hear now on Bandcamp - is a kind of prayer from the perspective of a person at a turning point. They’re asking the future—symbolised by the horizon—for the peace and reassurance they know it can’t give by its very nature, but they’re asking all the same. It’s that hope for the future, and hope in the face of adverisity, that is at the heart of the album. This might be my most hopeful album to date, and I can’t wait for you to make these songs your own.
The sleeve art is by Nicolas Feldmeyer, a Swiss artist whose images perfectly captured the album theme for me.
I’m also announcing my autumn album launch tour today, with shows featuring some of the very special musicians who played on the album. Tickets are on sale now.
All the best,
Sam
